A Little History…

Bouncin' Bettys started out under a completely different name. They were first called Pladd Dot Powerwounds and Pladd Dot Fusions. Since they were only sold locally in Statesboro, GA, it made sense that the strings would carry the business moniker "Pladd Dot" since that's what Chris called his teaching studio and it was a name that people were familiar with.

Chris (the president of Pladd Dot Music and owner of Bouncin' Bettys) sold them out of his apartment to his guitar students. After a while, they were coming back for more–each one now a convert to Pladd Dot Strings.

At that time, Pladd Dot didn't even have a business front and the storage facility for the strings was Chris' hall closet.

In 2005, when Pladd Dot Music opened it's first retail store and the strings took their rightful place on the wall. The Pladd Dot Fusions and Powerwounds still outsold every major brand on the wall.

Why? Because it's what we believe in. It's what WE play.

Labor of Love

Chris has always done the artwork and marketing for the guitar strings.

The bouncing betty background is a real F-14 that Chris took a picture of while at Pearl Harbor.

The Betty design is the brainchild between Chris and renowned artist Jeff MD. Chris commissioned Jeff to create the Bouncin' Betty "Pinup Girl" in Ashlee's likeness to set the strings apart from everything on the market.

Betty's 1940's era Airman costume is a nod to Chris' father (who was an airman in the military). She also has the Airman insignia on her left sleeve.

Of course the Pladd Dot Logo is still on the front of the packaging. Look on the left sleeve above the airman insignia (it's now a patch of the Pladd Dot Army!)

Oh yeah… we still sell more Bouncin' Bettys than any other major string brand in our retail store.

Why? Because it's what we believe in. It's what WE play.

Fun in the Sun…

When Pladd Dot Music decided to branch out into distribution, it was obvious that the products were no longer regional and needed a national brand name.

While on vacation, Chris was coming up with names for the strings. Inspired from his love for Call of Duty, Chris came up with the name Bouncin' Bettys after the real life Bouncin' Betty mines that were used by the US military in WWII. Side Note - those things are horrible and I wish we didn't fight in wars!

The "Powerwound" strings were renamed "Full Metal Jackets" because of their strong Swedish steel core and nickel outer "jacket". A fitting name with a nod to the toughness of our military.

"Fusions" were renamed "Bombardiers" because they're "Bombed" with 1,000 volts of electricity. Ashlee (Chris' wife) actually came up with the name.

Chris recognized the perfect name right away. It was a way to keep the tough theme going and nothing could fit the strings better.
